Roman shades

Close-up of roman shade fabric and stitching

Luxury you can see. Quality you can feel.

A Roman shade is built around its fabric. When the shade is lowered, the fabric fills the window and the texture, opacity and color become part of the room.

When it rises, the shade folds into horizontal pleats that stack at the top and stay visible. The fabric keeps doing its job whether the shade is up or down.

Choosing
fabric

The fabric is the most important decision in a Roman shade. Our selection spans sheer and translucent weaves, light filtering materials, and room darkening options, enough range to match the way any room is used. Lightweight fabrics and sheers open up a space with bright, diffuse sunlight. For bedrooms and nurseries, room darkening fabrics filter out most light without compromising on style.

styles

Flat fold is our most contemporary: the fabric lies flat when the shade is down and stacks into soft, even pleats when raised. Hobbled shades carry soft cascading loops across the face in both positions for a more traditional, layered look. Relaxed shades let the bottom edge curve gently rather than hang straight. Knife pleat sews rods into pockets on the back, giving crisp horizontal lines on the front.

Valance and
waterfall

A 6 inch valance can be added, in which case the shade fabric drops off the back of the headrail and the valance drops off the front. Waterfall shades have no valance and the fabric drops off the front of the headrail. Returns create a clean corner and hide componentry, which makes them ideal for outside mounted shades.

Controls

Cord loop lift operates by pulling a cord loop at the side of the shade, with a tensioner securing it to the wall. Cordless lift gives a cleaner look at the window and safer operation in homes with children or pets. Motorized Roman shades use a rear-roller mechanism, so they run with no visible cords on the fabric face, which is especially useful in rooms with multiple or hard to reach shades.

Common questions

What fabric opacity is right?
It comes down to how the room is used and at what time of day. Living rooms and dining rooms usually do well with a sheer or light filtering fabric. Bedrooms and media rooms typically call for room darkening or blackout lined materials.
Can Roman shades be motorized?
Yes. Motorized Roman shades have no visible cords on the front of the shade. They can be controlled by remote, app, schedule, or integrated with smart home systems including Lutron, Apple HomeKit and Amazon Alexa.
What is the difference between inside mount and outside mount?
An inside mount sits flush to the window frame for a built-in look. An outside mount extends beyond the frame, which makes the window appear larger and provides more light blockage around the edges.
